I am an Assistant Professor in Computer Engineering Department at Qassim University, Saudi Arabia. I joined QU in September 2011. Prior to joining QU, I was a Lecturer in Computer Science and Engineering Department at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).

As a computing professional, my goals are shaped by the drive to produce useful knowledge. I attempt to generate ideas and work on them, ideas that can bring benefits to the Muslim Ummah in particular. As a researcher, I try to combine technologies into tools for effective learning and behaving. This approach serves as a basis for deep spiritual satisfactions, along with a surge to maintain high level of professional standards.​

June 2015: Two new projects have been approved for funding by QU DSR. Alhamdulillah!

November 2014: New paper on Polygonal Approximation to appear in Image and Vision Computing. The more important thing for me is that the paper is sing​le authored. Alhamdulillah!

I do research in the general field of Pattern Recognition and Image Processing. More specifically, I work in Arabic handwriting recognition and image representation. Recently, I have been involved with the Machine Learning and Bioinformatics Group at QU.

I maintain three research database sites: KHATT Offline Arabic Handwritten Text (link), Arabic Font Database (link) and Online-KHATT: Arabic Online Text Database (link).
